For the first time in the Asiad history, the Games were hosted in Middle East. Tehran, the capital of Aryameher Empire known as Iran . 25 countries/NOCs, the maximum participation so far, including the People's Republic of China and Democratic People's Republic of Korea brought the largest delegation to the Asian Games. It was a sure sign of growth and expansion of the Asian Games Movement. Gymnastics and Fencing were new additional disciplines from this Asiad. In addition to use of the state-of-the-art technologies, from synthetic track to photo-finish camera, the Games was known for strict security measures due to reported threats from the Palestinians and a Japanese militant sect.
