The Sports Ministry Refutes News Report

Islamabad 6th September, 2009:  The Ministry of Sports intends to clarify news report titled "cold war commences between Pakistan Olympics Association and Ministry of Sports" appeared in daily Jang on Sept 6.

The sports ministry spokesman has refuted the report that the cold war has commenced between Pakistan Olympics Association (POA) and Ministry of Sports over the latter's decision to hold meeting with the office bearers of National Sports Federations. The spokesman said the speculation of cold war between Pakistan Olympics Association and Ministry of Sports is absolutely baseless and unfounded.

The spokesman said in response to the Ministry's letter, the POA has merely requested to reschedule the meetings with the office bearers of Taekwondo, Judo, Karate and Wushu after the Holy month of Ramadan. He said the POA is of the view that the officials would participate from different centres across the country and suggested to the ministry to put off the said meetings to be reconvened after Eidul Fitr.

The Ministry reckoned sympathetically the POA's request keeping in view the compelling reasons officially communicated to the Ministry and the said meetings are being rescheduled accordingly by the end of this week.
