1st South Asian Weightlifting Championship

Islamabad 28th February, 2012: 1st South Asian Weightlifting Championship will be held on 23-24 March 2012 Nepalgunj, Nepal. Pakistan Weightlifting Federation has received invitation from the host for participation of Pakistan Weightlifting Team. The competition will be held in accordance with the latest rules of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). Each country can participate in six weight category in men and five weight categories in women. Men events are 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 105kg and plus105kg. Doping control will be conducted in accordance with the IWF regulations during the competition. All participants and technical officials will get free accommodation and internal transportation manage by the organizing committee. Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) has decided to participate in the Championship.
The Pakistan Sports Board has directed the federation to organize the national training camp for effective predation and participation in the international competitions. PSB is sponsoring the national training camp which is in progress at Lahore with 16 players and 2 team officials. The Pakistan Weightlifting team will be selected with 6 players and 2 officials shortly.
Pakistan Weightlifting team won 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze medals in the last 11th South Asian Games held in Dhaka 2010.
