Islamabad, 27th September, 2012: A meeting of the concerned Honorary Secretaries of the National Sports Federations was held on 27th September, 2012 at Committee Room, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Islamabad to discuss and finalize training plan for preparation for participation in international events including forthcoming 12th South Asian Games schedule in India 2013. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Muhammad Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, Director General (Tech & Trg), Pakistan Sports Board. The Honorary Secretaries of Squash, Swimming, Weightlifting, Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Cycling, Kabaddi, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Wushu and representatives of Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis and Karate attended the meeting. Mr. Muhammad Jehangir, President, Pakistan Karate Federation also represented the Pakistan Olympic Association during the meeting.
Dr. Muhammad Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, DG (T&T), PSB welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the meeting. He stated that PSB and Federations are striving hard to raise the standard of sports in the country. He emphasized that federations must prepare their plan to organize the National Training Camps round the year, so that our sportspersons could get maximum training opportunities. He assured them that PSB would provide maximum financial, technical and administrative support to the federations.
The Secretaries presented their training plans and were of the opinion that continuity in the training camps must be observed so that desired results could be achieved. They requested PSB to arrange the services of foreign coaches for longer duration. They desired that standard sports equipment, preferably imported, must be acquired and provided to the trainees during the camps. They proposed that the remuneration of the local coaches should be enhanced and special grants must be earmarked under the head “Special Grant for international competitions” in the budget so that allocation should be fully utilized without any complications. Event wise allocation creates doubt and embarrassment while materializing the event mentioned in the budget. This is necessitated as some events are postponed due to certain reasons by the hosts.
The D.G assured the house that all proposals discussed during the meeting would be given due consideration and every efforts would be made to meet the requirements of the federations subject to the budgetary position and following the rules & regulations. He suggested that federations should come forward to shoulder their responsibilities in selecting the young, talented and budding players on pure merit and the teams should be a blend of youth and experience so that result oriented camps should be organized in the larger national interest.
In the end, it was unanimously decided to start the preparatory camps from second week of October, 2012.
