Press Release - 14th June, 2013

Islamabad, 24th June, 2013: A series of allegations is underway against Pakistan Sports Board by creating this misunderstanding that PSB is intervening in the affairs of Pakistan Olympic Association by constituting an Interim Olympic Committee. Talking to the journalists in his office on Monday, Syed Amir Hamza Gilani, Director General PSB regretted all these allegations and expressed that the constitution of Interim Olympic Committee is the sole prerogative of National Sports Federations. National Sports Federations having reservations on the policies of Lt. Gen. (Retd) Syed Arif Hassan in a meeting formed an Interim Olympic Committee to look after the affairs of Pakistan Olympic Association. The federations also disqualified Lt. Gen. (Red) Syed Arif Hassan from working as President, Pakistan Olympic Association. .

Director General, PSB also informed that 32nd National Games held at Lahore were quite illegal and without authenticity as most of the departments and federations didn’t participate in those games. Now the 32nd National Games which are being organized by the Interim Committee are legal. To a question, if PSB is favouring Interim Committee? He replied yes! because this body is abiding by the government rules and National Sports Policy 2005. We are with our Government; we are with our Supreme Court. We will implement the National Sports Policy in letter and spirit and we are bound to follow law of the land. We are not backing any body but we are watching our national interests “he added”. Replying another question, he explained that we have constituted a Finance Committee who will ensure transparency regarding expenditure to be incurred on National Games and up gradation/repair/maintenance of sports infrastructure at Pakistan Sports Complex. He said that I will not allow any one to incur a single penny against the financial rules & regulations. National exchequer is the money of tax payers and we are answerable to the public and Government of Pakistan in this regard.
