1ST MINI MARATHON RACE FOR PEACE
Islamabad 23rd March, 2010: On the directive of Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Prime Minister of Pakistan to revive the sporting activities in the country, 1st Mini Marathon for Peace was organized by the Pakistan Sports Board on 23rd March 2010 at Islamabad. The race started with waving National Flag by Syed Anisul Hussnain Mousvi, Federal Secretary, Ministry of Sports at 1100 hours from Roshan Khan Squash Complex, Islamabad. The route of the race was Kashmir Highway – Rose and Jasmine Garden – Chand Tara – Shakarparian Road – entered into Pakistan Sports Complex from Gate No.5. The race culminated at Liaquat Gymnasium, covering an approximate distance of four kilometers. Approximately 1000 participants took part in the race. PSB provided printed complimentary vests to all the participants. Among participants were students of local institutions, general public and former national/international sportsmen. The race was led by Syed Habib Shah, Former National Record Holder in 100 meter race.
After the race a closing ceremony was held at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad. Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakharani, Federal Minister for Sports graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Secretary Sports, Syed Amir Hamza Gilani, Director General, PSB and Chief Organizer, Dr. A. Waheed Mughal – Deputy Director General (Technical), Pakistan Sports Board, Islamabad. The Minister for Sports distributed awards among the fifty lucky draw winners. In his address, Minister for Sports appreciated the efforts of participants and organizers for smooth conduct and successful conclusion of the race. He further pledged that we will fight against the terrorism and combat the roots of terrors with our strong will and fortitude. We belong to peaceful nation and we want to maintain peace and harmony and this is our message to whole of world through sports activities. Pakistan Sports Board made elaborate arrangements for the conduct of the 1st Mini Marathon Race at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad. Participants were registered and after security check up were seated in the Roshan Khan Squash Complex where they were entertained with music concert composed of National Songs. On the route of the race Navy Band buzz the national songs and local music along with a group of musicians.
