Islamabad: 17th April, 2016: The Pakistan Football Federation led by Syed Faisal Hayat challenged the vires of Sports Development and Control Ordinance 1962, PSB Rules, National Sports Policy, working and functioning of Pakistan Sports Board and jurisdiction of Government of Pakistan on sports matters by filing two writ petitions in the Lahore High Court, Lahore. The Honourable Justice Farukh Irfan Khan of the Lahore High Court continued the hearing of the arguments of the concerned parties on different dates of hearings. The Court attached great importance to this issue. The Lahore High Court dismissed the aforesaid writ petitions filed against the Pakistan Sports Board and the Government of Pakistan and upheld the stance of the Pakistan Sports Board. The Legal Advisor, PSB, Mr. Muhammad Arfanullah Khan and Mr. Muhammad Munir Piracha, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan pursued and argued the cases on behalf of Pakistan Sports Board in the Learned Lahore High Court, Lahore. Now it has become clear that Pakistan Sports Board and Government of Pakistan has the jurisdiction to run the sports affairs even in the wake of 18th amendments in the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973 under the sports Development and Control Ordinance 1962.
The credit of this unprecedented success goes to Honourable Federal Minister for IPC, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Secretary, IPC, Mr. Muhammad Ali Gardezi and Director General, Pakistan Sports Board, Dr. M. Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera for their keen interest and untiring efforts in saving the National Sports at Federal level. The implications of these decisions are far reaching and shall ensure the progress of the sports at national and international level. In pursuance of these decisions, the authority of Pakistan Sports Board and the Ministry of IPC has been strengthened and has got the legal sanction.
