Islamabad 16th September, 2009: The Federal Minister for Sports withholds the grants of Athletic Federation of Pakistan (AFP) as the federation is found noncompliant to the provision of National Sports Policy 2005 approved by the cabinet regarding the holding of Federation's elections.
Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani, the Federal Minister for Sports, who is also the President of Pakistan Sports Board, chaired the meeting held at Ministry of Sports attended by Anisul Hassnain Musavi, Federal Secretary Sports, Syed Amir Hamza Gilani, DG PSB and other Board officials.
The Spokesman of PSB said the President of the PSB reviewed at length the performance of AFP. The results produced in the Asian Games and South Asian Games were found extremely poor despite required financial support extended to the AFP on account of annual and special grants, he said.
Spokesperson said, Mr. Jilani has already forewarned to the AFP not to violate the Sports Policy and he will take stern disciplinary action as per provisions of Rule 4(xi) of the Constitution of PSB if elections held in contravention to National Sports Policy.
Mr. Jilani vowed to bring the revival of Pakistan sports and would ensure the utilization of all resources in order to enhance the standard of their respective disciplines in the country. He reiterated its stance to uphold the sanctity of the constitution and no individual in any case would be allowed to violate National Sports Policy. He said the grants would be released to the affiliated federations corresponding to their performance.
