5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games

The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were held at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from 17th to 27th September, 2017. Ashgabat won the right to host the Asian Indoor Games first time in the former Soviet Central Asian region. On 19th December, 2010, the host city Ashgabat was chosen in Kuwait to host the said Games. The flag of the Olympic Council of Asia was officially handed over to the mayor of the city of Ashgabat on 6th July, 2013.

The Opening Ceremony was held at newly built Ashgabat Olympic Stadium on 17th September, 2017. More than 10000 artists including dancers, singers, acrobats and horse riders wore over 75 000 pieces of costume to take the audience into a journey through the history, the culture, the tradition, the music, the art and the people of Turkmenistan from ancient times until the present.

Over 4500 athletes from 45 countries took part in the parade in the first ever Asia-Oceania joint continental Games with the participation of a refugee team for the first time under the Olympic flag.

President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussasin alongwith other heads of states and governments witnessed the colorful opening ceremony of 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games at Olympic Complex in Turkmenistan.

President of Pakistan Mammon Hussain waved hand as 116-member Pakistani sports contingent waving green national flags passed through the stadium. Pakistani athletes participated in different sports disciplines, including Athletics, Billiard Sports, Ju-Jitsu, Swimming, Taekwondo, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling, and Belt Wrestling.

Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov officially opened the ceremony. This first top international event will help Turkmenistan open up more to the world. It is history for the country."
