The 6th Asia/Oceania Region Intergovernmental Meeting was held on May 26, 2009 in Amman, Jordan, with 49 delegates from 20 countries as well as observers from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) participating. From the Pakistan side, Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani, Federal Minister for Sports was attended the said meeting.
The key topics covered were:
Ratification of UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport (Convention) and Voluntary Fund:
WADA gave an update on the status of the Convention and the activities of the Conference of Parties including information on the Voluntary Fund. All Asian governments were encouraged to ratify, accept or accede to the Convention as soon as possible.
Asian Region WADA Foundation Board Member Election Process:
It was agreed that the election process for WADA Foundation Board Members representing the Asian Region will be overseen and lead by WADA Regional Office. It was also agreed that eligibility to be a candidate or to vote would only be extended to those who have fully paid their contribution to WADA and have ratified the Convention.
Asian Region Contribution to WADA for 2010 and Beyond:
It was agreed that the current funding formula, as agreed upon in Kuala Lumpur in 2007 shall remain in force until 2012 and will be applied to the 2013 WADA budget. It was further agreed that governments would review the current formula and consider other options by December 31, 2012, with an implementation date for the 2014 WADA budget. It was also agreed that any new formula would be in-force for a five year period.
India kindly offered to host the next Asia/Oceania Region Intergovernmental meeting in 2010.
