3rd Inter-Provincial Kabaddi Championship

The 3rd Inter-Provincial Kabaddi Championship was organized by Pakistan Kabaddi Federation is collaboration with Pakistan with Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

Syed Amir Hamza Gillani, Director General, Pakistan Sports Board who was the chief guest at the closing ceremony on 14th March, 2011. Punjab won the said Championship defeating Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa by 50-25 points.

In his address on the occasion, Gillani appreciated Pakistan Kabaddi Federation for their successful efforts. He said, “Kabaddi is our traditional game and is played in the rural as well as urban areas of the country since centuries. It is one of those games that do not require huge budget.”

He also said although PSB provides facilities for promotion of sports but there is still need to promote indigenous sports in the country also because certain sports like kabaddi represent the local spirit and culture of the nation. He added that we need to introduce basic facilities and involve people in local games so as to create a sports culture in the far-flung areas of the country, “Only this way, we can develop a true national sports culture on the country.

He urged the official of the Kabaddi Federation to start refresher courses for players and coaches to keep abreast of the changing techniques and rules in the game as kabaddi is game which update it rules and techniques by the passage of time.

He admitted that kabaddi is full with potential and there is need to continue talent hunting programme from the grass-root level and train them well so that the pool at the primary level could be expanded.

He said this championship was a step in the right direction to perform their skills at the national level. Kabaddi is one of those few games in which Pakistan excels. Our kabaddi coaches are imparting training to other countries and I am proud of that.
